International Youth Day

International Youth Day (IYD) is an awareness day designated by the United Nations to bring about awareness to cultural and legal issues surrounding youth. The first IYD took place on August 12, 2000 and has continued to take place on that date every year since. On this day, concerts, workshops, cultural events, and meetings involving nation and local government officials and youth organizations take place around the world.
IYD 2015

The theme for 2015 is “Youth Civic Engagement”. Engagement and participation of youth is essential to achieve sustainable human development, yet opportunities for youth to engage politically, economically, and socially are low to non-existent. More efforts are needed to raise awareness about the importance of youth civic engagement. This will inevitably benefit society and bring full contribution to society, development and peace.

You Can Be Part of These Efforts!

On this day, young people will be able to share their message by:

  • Spread the word about engaging youth in positive opportunities for youth
  • Submitting a photograph that relates to the theme
  • Tweeting ideas and opinions using #YouthDay
  • Share our material on FB, Twitter, and Instagram
  • Organizing an International Youth Day Event. Youth should contribute in the building and designing of their future!

Youth Civic Engagement

This year, SOS Safety Magazine, will be hosting an International Youth Day 2015 Event on Saturday, August 15, 2015. The event will take place at Castle Downs Park, next to the skateboard park between 11:00 am and 4:00 pm. Show your support for youth and join the festivities! There will also be entertainment, food, lots of prizes, and games for the kids! Take a look at some of the photos from last year’s event.
