Four kilos of what was believed to be W-18 were seized in Edmonton in December 2015. The drug was then sent to a Health Canada drug analysis lab. Confirmation has been received this week that the substance is indeed W-18.

As we have mentioned in a previous article, W-18 is 100 times stronger than Fentanyl, which is 100 times stronger than morphine.  It was a product of medical research from over 30 years ago and has now resurfaced on the streets, potentially hidden in other drugs.

Sgt. Dave Nibbs of ALERT says, “To our best knowledge, this is the first time that W-18 has been seized in a powder form in Alberta… W-18 represents an even more significant threat [than Fentanyl].”

According to investigators, the powder appears benign and was imported from overseas. Sgt. Dave Nibbs says that ALERT got the powder before it hit the streets. Learn more about the seizure in the video below.

Stay tuned on future updates about W-18.
